developing mock exam questions

JYA won a contract with Health Education England to develop mock scenarios for the Faculty of Public Health Final Membership Exam. The East of England training programme runs mock exams for public health trainees every year and needs some new questions to reflect the current scope of public health practice. JYA will be working with some consultant colleagues to develop a whole new suite of questions for use in 2020.

As Head of the School of Public Health for Health Education England in the east of England, Jan is accountable for the training of public health consultants and practitioners in the region.

Jan continues to work with the Public Health England Screening Quality Assurance Service to support assurance visits to NHS providers. She chairs multi-professional visit teams; visiting maternity, breast screening, diabetic eye and abdominal aortic aneurysm services across England. Jan is also the Head of QA for breast screening for the north of England.

The UK Public Health Register is a professional registration service for public health specialists and practitioners who do not have a medical degree. It enables professional standards to be maintained and the public's interest to be protected. Jan has recently worked with the small team of experts who moderate the assessment process which allows aspiring registrants to demonstrate their competence.

LOGISTICS FOR A BELARUSSIAN STUDY VISIT

Rick worked in 2018 with St George’s University Hospitals NHS Trust to support the World Health Organisation-funded visit of the Belarus national breast screening project team from Belarus to the UK. Whilst here the team visited breast screening, assessment, quality assurance and quality control locations around England.

CRITICAL APPRAISAL SKILLS PROGRAMME

Jan has worked with CASP to deliver workshops on how to appraise published papers and make sense of what they tell you. In 2018 Jan developed an introductory video as well as running sessions on systematic reviews and a train the trainer course. 

THE SPARKLE FOUNDATION

Jan worked in 2018 with The Sparkle Foundation who operate in a suburban district in Malawi to provide food, health care and education to children. Malawi is full of colour, smiles, poverty, friendliness, communicable diseases, hope, malnutrition, passion and energy. Both Rick and Jan learnt so much from the staff working to provide education, food and healthcare to vulnerable children on site and are wishing everyone all the best for current projects.
